News-FLYSAFE started
FLYSAFE project has started

On the 1st of February 2005, the FLYSAFE project has started, and SKYSOFT, as one of its active partners through its ASD (Aeronautics, Security and Defense) area, is committed to make it a great success, together with the 35 partners.

FLYSAFE is the name of a major Integrated Project (IP), selected and co-financed by the European Commission under the 6th Framework Program, with a 4 -year duration.
It addresses the challenge identified in the Strategic Research Agenda produced by the Advanced Council for Aeronautics Research in Europe (ACARE) to maintain the highest level of safety in air transport, for which traffic is expected to triple within 20 years.

This will be made through the design and development of new avionics systems and cockpit human-machine interfaces reducing risks of accidents related to loss of control, controlled flight into terrain and approach and landing.
FLYSAFE is structured so as to deal with all threats of hazards: traffic collision, ground collision and adverse weather conditions.

FLYSAFE kick-off meeting was held in Toulouse on the 22nd and 23rd of February, 2005, with two SKYSOFT representatives:  Mr. Nuno Diniz, Company Project Manager, and Mr. José Neves, Steering Committee member and the responsible person of SKYSOFT’s ASD area.

The project coordinated by THALES Avionics groups 36 partners, including airframers: Airbus, Dassault-Aviation and Eurocopter Deutschland; airlines: Air Malta and Adria Airways, and major European Avionics providers. Numerous Investigation Institutes, Research centers and Universities are part of it. The team covers the competencies of the Civil Aviation world as well as competencies from the Meteorology world.

The contribution of Skysoft will focus on the following areas:
· Meteorological data link.
· ATC tactical and strategic functions
· Co-operation in the development of advanced decision support functions.

The objective of Skysoft in the scope of this project is to continue the R&D efforts that were initiated in previous projects such as ISAWARE II and MA-AFAS, projects that were also co-financed by the European Commission under the 5th Framework Program.
