WP 6.3.5 D 6.3-3 Flight Test Detailed Specification (NLR part)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
NLR’s Swearingen Metro II test aircraft will be used in FLYSAFE flight test experiment No. 5 (FT5) in which real time on-board weather data fusion is to be realised.

In order to evaluate uploading and on-board use of both the local- and regional WIMS products, the FLYSAFE FT5 test flights will respectively be flown in the Paris TMA (coverage with ground weather radars available) as well as over other more-or-less arbitrary locations over Europe. Bottom line for both is that the weather in the area should meet pre-specified requirements.

This report describes two sets of flight test objectives for FT5: nominal and backup objectives. Backup objectives cover the scenario without an enhanced weather radar on-board NLR’s Swearingen Metro II test aircraft. Each set of objectives is correlated with a set of required results. Based on the objectives and required results, the customisation for FT5 is described. Customisation is understood to include all that is necessary for the FT5 test flights to begin, except for all flight test operational matters. The flight test operational matters will be covered in the FT5 Flight Test Plan (FTP). The description of the FT5 customisation in this report not only covers all that has been defined, decided, etc. up to the date of issuing of this report, it also includes an overview of all other customisation activities that are foreseen and required. The contents of the latter will be included in full detail in the FTP in due course. The customisation part in the FTP will therefore be the guidance material during the actual customisation activities.
