WP 2.3.6 D 2.3.6-3 Airborne weather data fusion functional detailed definition

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
This contractual deliverable of the WP 2.3.6 Weather Data Fusion contains:

  • an overall description of the system architecture, as proposed for the Flight Tests Experiment 5,
  • a core function breakdown of the main sub-systems,
  • a software requirement specification for the flight tests mock-up development.
A detailed software requirement specification - specific to software to be developed and integrated on the aircraft for the flight tests campaign - describes the following main sub-systems:
  • ARINC 429 Data Manager,
  • WIMS Request/Reply Manager,
  • Weather Fusion,
  • Weather display.
The ARINC 429 Data Manager interfaces the avionics equipment (IRS, ADC, GPS…) to get the current aircraft position and heading.

The WIMS Request/Reply Manager generates the GWP requests on a cyclic basis and stores the uplinked WIMS products (CB, CAT and ICE products) into the Weather Database.

The Weather Data Fusion interfaces the weather radar and fuses data from weather radar with uplinked WIMS products.

The Weather Display provides the crew with a weather situation awareness (presentation of raw WIMS products, as uplinked from ground, and results of Data Fusion).

This document aims at being used as the basis for the software development for the Flight Tests Experiment 5 mock-up.
