WP 2.3.3 2.3.3-1: Enhanced airborne weather radar sub-system overall description
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
D 2.3.3-1 is the first deliverable of FLYSAFE WP 2.3.3. The document continues and builds on DI 1.2.2. Further sources of the document are the Internal Deliverables DI 2.3.3-1, DI 2.3.3-2 and DI 2.3.3-3.
It gives an overall description of the airborne weather radar sub-system enhanced modes:
- the storm-top hazard characterisation mode,
- the lightning detection,
- the estimation and correction of the beam path attenuation using dual polarisation parameters,
- the hydrometor discrimination and hail detection mode using dual polarisation technology.
D 2.3.3-1 describes the interfaces and outlines the evaluation strategy of these functions.
D 2.3.3-1 shall function as the reference document for further research and development produced within this WP.
The document shall further enable other partners in the project (in particular from WP 2.2.x, 2.3.5 and 2.3.6) to understand the functionality of the enhanced airborne weather radar modes and to perform their work in building up the tools, software, interfaces, data fusion and link realisations, HMI, etc for the FLYSAFE Flight tests.
