WP 5.3 Intelligent Crew Support

This WP aims to provide support for the crew in the event that they may make an error or a mistake caused by high workload, fatigue, anxiety, etc. The end result will be a software function ready to be interfaced to the NG ISS.
A particular area of interest is the use of the ICS to support the aircrew in resolving complex situations. For example a large number of decisions are involved in the event that the aircraft is forced to divert following an engine failure. The ICS is capable of providing useful status monitoring and procedural support during this period of intense crew activity.
In the event that crew actions are not consistent with the demands of the current situation, then the ICS can generate timely and pertinent alerts and advice.  However in order to provide crew support for complex situations within the necessary response time (for example within half a second), it is necessary to further develop some of the internal mechanisms within the ICS Kernel.
Particular emphasis will be placed on the design and presentation of ICS alerts and advice within the flight deck context.

BAE Systems will lead this work package and provide the kernel of the application. It will organise the work among partners to define and develop the procedures database and the logical link between all elements.
