The University of Malta is the main institution providing higher education in Malta. Tracing its origins back to the late 16th century, it has expanded over the years and now consists of 10 faculties and 18 institutes. Student population approximately numbers 8000. The Faculty of Engineering has a good teaching and research profile in a wide range of disciplines ranging from manufacturing processes to avionics. The University of Malta has R&D experience in aircraft safety systems and is participating in FLYSAFE to provide its contribution in the development of safety equipment to mitigate the risk of collision in the take-off and landing phases of flight. The University of Malta will be involved in the operational assessment (WP1), terrain hazard activity (WP3) and the development of the Integrated Surveillance System and its integration (WP5). It will also provide contribution to the overall evaluation (WP6) and will actively disseminate information through publications, conferences and workshops. FLYSAFE will offer the University of Malta an excellent opportunity to conduct collaborative R&D with top European organisations. This will clearly contribute to the strengthening of the university’s R&D profile, which, in turn, reflects on the overall country’s innovation capabilities. |
