GALILEO Avionica (former ALENIA Difesa), a Finmeccanica Company, with 3.400 employees is the Italian leader in Avionics, Airborne Systems and Electro-optics fields.

In the avionics frame, Galileo Avionica designs, develops and produces both stand-alone equipment (displays, computers, etc.) and on board systems (navigation, attack and surveillance, radar, IR) together with the related operational and logistic support.

Galileo Avionica has a primary role in the leading European co-operative Programmes (EF Typhoon, EH- 101, NH 90 and, as a forecast, AGS, MPA, AEW) and national Programmes (AMX, M346, …).

The Company is a member of the AIAD and AECMA Associations and is involved in the ACARE activities for the preparation of the Strategic Research Agenda SRA2.

Galileo Avionica has been involved in EC founded projects since 1994. In Framework Programme 4, it has participated in AFMS and AATMS projects, leading the Surveillance (ADS) function WPs.

In FP5, Galileo Avionica has been involved in two projects: MA-AFAS and AFAS.

Currently Galileo Avionica is involved in two Programs of the FP6 1st Call: SAFEE and TATEM. The Company is also involved in the National (ENAV leaded) STENAV project.

The participation of Galileo Avionica in FLYSAFE is in line with its strategic plan regarding new avionics systems and is the logical consequence of the previous FPs activities and complementary to the current ones (e.g.: SAFEE). The main activities Galileo Avionica will perform in FLYSAFE are concerning the Integrated Surveillance System.
