Hovemere Ltd was established in 1974, and is a world leader in the development of high-performance LiDAR and Wind-LiDAR systems. These include LiDAR systems for the remote sensing of atmospheric temperature and ozone and Incoherent Doppler wind LiDAR. Hovemere has unique experience within Europe regarding the full range of Doppler Wind LiDAR technologies appropriate for deployment throughout the complete operational range of modern aircraft. Hovemere is an SME, currently employing about ten scientific / engineering staff, all with Ph.D. / M.Sc. qualifications. The Company has a current turnover of approximately 600 Keuro. Recent Company developments include products for commercial applications in aviation and windmeasuring systems for improving wind farm efficiency. Hovemere Ltd. has been involved in a number of NASA space missions, and is currently working on ESA Space LiDAR projects including the ESA Aeolus Mission, WALES and ATILD (EarthCARE) and the aerospace LiDAR projects Optical Airborne Detection System (OADS) and AWIATOR, in collaboration with EADS. Hovemere is also involved in a number of ground-based LIDAR projects within both the EC and the USA. Hovemere is very experienced in the work related to the proposed contribution to FLYSAFE. Hovemere will bring to the FLYSAFE project a long-term experience in optical measurements systems and in appropriate LIDAR and Doppler Wind LiDAR technologies. This will include full discussion of appropriate technologies for future airborne sensors, the projected performance of competitive sensing systems, the results of flight tests of Hovemere’s sensor systems and those of other organisations. Hovemere has been involved in other related EU projects (AWIATOR) and is a participant in the proposed VorTech3D Project (also with EADS). The staff has a thorough understanding of fluid dynamics and meteorological issues related to aviation. Hovemere’s participation will assure the appropriate exchange of information between the E.U. programmes. The FLYSAFE IP is perceived by Hovemere as a unique opportunity to participate, together with THALES and other partners having the best expertise in Europe, in the development of a future innovative European ISS. |
