Avitronics Research is a non-profit organisation with the scope of establishing a national focus and a centre of excellence in Greece in its domain. Its aims are new concepts elaboration and their promotion to improve safety and security of air transport and the operation efficiency of air carriers and related public and private service providers. Accident investigations where members of our organisation played a leading role, have pointed out the urgent need for the improvement of navigation aids and for a better knowledge of their interaction with the pilot. In this context, Avitronics Research has established links that allow it access to various computational and simulation facilities and to such laboratory equipment that enables the study of human behaviour during flight and for, in particular, man-machine interaction. Our staff, through their engagement in activities sponsored by the relevant national authorities, has also experience in security aspects for ATM and airports, the latter being of particular importance to Greece, which is the organiser and host of the Olympic games in 2004. Due to the aforementioned expertise, Avitronics Research will contribute in FLYSAFE primarily in areas that deal with operational assessment. These include activities such as survey analysis of aircraft accidents and incidents associated to those hazards which might be connected to the proposed system; reviewing current and expected regulation issues and certification requirements; participation in experimental human error investigations to identify potential certification issues related to the above; safety assessment of the proposed system concept; identification of issues related to user training, focusing in particular on airlines requirements; contribution to the creation of aeronautical standards and guidelines and in assessing related risks and their mitigation. Avitronics Research will also provide useful contribution in the tasks concerning exploitation and dissemination and interface with end users. |
