National Aerospace Laboratory NLR is a non-profit organization established in 1937, and one of the Large Technological Institutes of the Netherlands.

NLR currently (2006) employs a staff of about 700. Over two-thirds of the staff are graduates from universities and technical colleges.

The mission of the Foundation NLR is to provide expert contributions to activities in aerospace and related fields. NLR independently renders services to government departments and international agencies, equipment suppliers, aerospace industries and aircraft and spacecraft operators. NLR is a customer oriented research organization working under national and international contracts. About 75 percent of NLR's activities consist of research and development under contract. For its basic research programme and for the development of specialized research equipment, NLR receives government subsidies.

In 2004 NLR’s revenues amounted to about 75 million Euro. Nearly 60 percent of NLR’s activities related to development and 40 percent to the operation of aircraft and spacecraft. NLR has a solid and profound knowledge in aircraft human factors, flight operational issues, new cockpit system technology, safety (and risk) assessment methods, flight simulation and flight testing techniques.

NLR will lead the WP6 Evaluation and Results Assessment and various sub-workpackages within for the piloted flight simulator evaluation of the NG ISS, and development of a training program. Furthermore, NLR will lead the Operational Concept Definition of WP1.1, the Certification Issues analysis of WP1.3 and the Preliminary System Safety Assessment of WP5.1. FLYSAFE will give NLR an outstanding opportunity to transfer knowledge on human factors, flight safety issues, flight operations, and experimental and technical expertise. To NLR, it will bring new up front knowledge, a platform to develop and transfer methods and tools, and it allows cooperation on development and evaluation of new, innovative solutions for aircraft cockpit safety systems together with leading partners in the field in Europe.
