THALES Avionics is the coordinator of the FLYSAFE project.

THALES Avionics is part of THALES'  Aerospace Business, which also encompasses training & simulation as well as air traffic management activities. The Aerospace Business generates 18% of the group’s consolidated sales of 10,2 billion euros.

In 2002, THALES Avionics’ sales rose to 1 billion euros, with 77 percent in export markets and 65 percent in the civil sector, consolidating its position as number one in Europe and number three worldwide for cockpit avionics, utilities and in-flight entertainment.

THALES Avionics has built a strong cooperation with the German company Diehl Avionik Systeme GmbH, in the areas of cockpit displays and human-machine interface.

THALES Avionics is a major partner of Airlines and aircraft manufacturer for cockpit systems, including surveillance functions and equipment. The company is deeply involved in advanced studies in the area of air transport safety, and leader of the FP5 project ISAWARE II.

THALES avionics has built a strong expertise in the area of terrain avoidance and warning systems (TAWS).

The company will be particularly active in the system definition, in the standardisation actions, in the implementation of innovative terrain presentation, and of the Integrated Surveillance System.

THALES Avionics is the leader of WP1 (Operational assessment) and WP4 (Terrain hazards).
